Come Fly With Me

I haven’t always known I wanted to fly. My path to pilot training was a twisty one indeed. While still in high school, I visited an airplane mechanics school, but it wasn’t quite the right fit. After high school, I attended the Airline Academy, a school for flight attendants, but that wasn’t quite the right fit either. I decided to attend our local community college in the hopes of figuring out what would work for me. It was at a college night there that I figured it out.

Eastern Michigan University (EMU) and its Eagle Flight Center had tables set up, detailing the pilot program. I had no idea that such a program even existed. I talked to the representatives and arranged a visit. It was all over once I sat in one of the planes. I knew that I was supposed to be a pilot, not a mechanic or flight attendant, but the one flying the plane. I applied and was accepted to EMU. I will earn a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Flight Technology along with my pilot licenses.

Remembering my first flight sends chills down my spine. I was excited and nervous all at the same time. Once Chris, my flight instructor, and I were in the air, all the nervousness melted away. And when he let me take the controls, I knew with absolute certainty that I was where I belonged.
