With all that is going on in our world today, it can be a bit overwhelming. Being cooped up in the house for long isn’t good for anyone. While most of us are being restrained to our homes, we still have work that needs to get done. With work getting done and the stress of what’s happening in the news, we often forget to take care of ourselves. This is a time where using self care can be the most beneficial. It allows you to take a break from the news, from your work and stress and gives you a chance to enjoy yourself. There are so many different ways to replenish the different aspects of yourself but here are five ways you can practice self care during quarantine.
One way would be to start a new light physical activity. While we are on lockdown, you are still able to go on walks or bike rides. Getting out of the house for just an hour can be very refreshing. You’re also getting active while enjoying nature and the fresh air it provides. There are also plenty of ways to stay active indoors. You can find workout routines on Youtube or Pinterest for all different skill levels as well as routines that don’t require any type of workout equipment.
The second way you can practice self care is picking up a new hobby. Finding something new that sounds interesting or maybe something you’ve always wanted to do. You can go back to an old hobby you’ve gotten too busy for. Whether it be painting, knitting, reading books, or writing. There are plenty of things that can be done inside and if you don’t have what you need, try to order it online so that way you’re being safe and keeping everyone around you safe while still keeping yourself entertained.
This is probably the most common way people have been keeping occupied but try watching some television. Sure, this does not initially sound like self care but watching an episode or five of your favorite TV show or something new is a good way to take a break. It can be a break from school work or from keeping up with what’s going on in the news but either way it allows you to focus on something lighter or maybe someone else’s drama instead of focusing on quarantine.
The fourth way you could practice self care in quarantine is to reorganize your living space. Your living room, bedroom, office, or any space that you feel could use a change or some livening up. This gives you some activity to focus on and once it’s all done it gives you a new, cleaner space to work with. Having that more organized space can also be a mood booster compared to working in a messier, disorganized space.
The last way you can practice self care during quarantine is to watch some TED talks or find some educational podcasts. These can cover so many different topics from spirituality to self discipline. The TED talks app and youtube page has an extensive catalog that can be utilized for free. Spotify and Apple also have a huge selection of podcasts that can be found for topics like these as well from language learning to what’s going on in the world of science. This can be a great way to educate yourself or better yourself in a time like this.
