On Friday, September 13th 2019, the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) Incorporated (Inc.) hosted their annual Yard Show at Big Bob’s Lakehouse and Amphitheater. The National Pan-Hellenic Council, Incorporated (NPHC) is currently composed of nine (9) historically African-American and international Greek letter sororities (for women) and fraternities (for men), including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc., Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. also, known as the Divine Nine.
On EMU’s campus, seven out of the nine greek letter organizations participated in the annual yard show. Usually at these events you can expect upbeat music, lots of laughter, and enjoyment in watching the members from each respective organization step and represent themselves in an extraordinary way.
Eastern Michigan’s Greek Life is made up of four different councils: College Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the Multicultural Greek Council. Each of these respective councils bring their very own organizations and traditions to the Campus Life and leadership of EMU. Different organizations require different commitments. The values that bring these organizations to life are far and wide from truth, faith, knowledge, honor, brotherhood, sisterhood, and friendship. Each of these groups work very hard to instill these values and ideas in their daily lives.
